My current research interest includes the fundamentals and applications of soft-ionization mass spectrometry to solve biological problems in tissue and single cells.
In situ Ambient Single Cell Mass Spectrometry
I am currently interested in infrared-laser based ambient soft-ionization techniques, such as Laser ablation electrospray ionization (LAESI) and atmospheric pressure (AP) infrared (IR) matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry, to perform direct and rapid in situ analysis of metabolites and lipids present in tissue and single cell population.
Imaging Atmospheric Pressure MALDI-MS
Atmospheric Pressure (AP) infrared (IR) matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry (MS) can be utilized to analyze molecules from tissue using its native water as the matrix. The AP IR-MALDI can be used for the real-time in vivo and in situ analysis of biomolecules in tissue without tedious sample preparation or complexity of loading the sample into a vacuum.
2D-SDS Gel electrophoresis
The classical proteomic technique, 2D-SDS Gel electrophoresis with MALDI (matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization) mass spectrometry.
Other Research Interests
Other areas of my interest include broader aspects of mass spectrometric and related techniques such 2D gel electrophoresis, HPLC, GC, ion mobility spectrometry, etc.
